1. COLOR 

Color is the most important aspect of your windows display. It doesn’t matter if you have a small or large budget, color is something we can all use to produce a successful window display. Even before you start with your sideboard, ask: What is my color theme? One of the biggest mistakes in visual merchandising is forgetting to stick to a theme. When following a theme, such as an analog, complementary or monochromatic color scheme, your showcase will have cohesion and congruence and will be more pleasing to the eye.

2. STEADY FLOW

Is your showcase fluent? Are your eyes following a path that leads to a focal point? Each sideboard must have a focal point. Your focal point is your point of sale! Use design elements to create a main point of interest, such as repetition. Repetition is an easy way to create emphasis on your showcase.

3. HISTORY 

Your showcase should always have a theme or story. Does your showcase match and does the theme represent your brand appropriately? By having a theme and sticking to it, you will not create a showcase that is inconsistent. Another important element that is often overlooked is recognizing the overall purpose of your showcase. Your showcase should look nice, but it still needs to generate revenue. If you’re exhibiting an outfit or accessory, what aspects of the piece are unique and how you can show them to your customer. An example is to have 3 mannequins wearing a piece in three different ways, to show their versatility.

4. TARGET MARKET 

It’s always important to make sure your story or topic is appropriate for your audience. What topic will attract the right audience to your store? If your target customer can’t relate to your storefront, it won’t catch his eye… he’ll assume he doesn’t like what you’re offering.

5. BRANDING 

When someone looks at your shop window, do they know who you are? What elements are you going to incorporate so that your display stays true to your brand? Make sure your logo or store name are always in your storefront. When a person looks at your dresser, they can remember who your brand is or how they can find you. That’s where your call to action comes in, whether it’s an Instagram sticker on your window or a promotion they can participate in, always have some kind of call to action.
